Who as a child did not take his hands filled with cardboard figurines? Before the digital era, surely many.

Some made the collection of miniatures a completely individual and selfish activity: figurines were collected with zeal to fill a neat album that later was shown privately to a few.

For many others, however, the figurines were an excuse to socialize with peers: while playing, kids talked about school, families and friends. The ultimate goal of all was to complete the album.

But it was not easy: some figurines were not easy to get, and kids called those “the hard ones to get”.

Albums sometimes featured pages dedicated to the historical records of the competition: the younger and the older players, the fastest goal, the player with the most minutes played and many other curiosities.

On this current World Cup, FIFA introduced its virtual figurines album World of Brazil. Football fans can now enjoy a new free application that enables to complete the album and exchange virtual trading cards of players and teams who participate in Brazil 2014, on the official website of FIFA.

Times may have changed, but a major event as a Football World Cup still drives passion to all figurines collectors page after page.
